Cherveno Zname (Red Flag) sports complex in Sofia will be renovated into a modern sports centre that would be able to host top international sports events, Construction-Entrepreneurial Holding EOOD (CEH), the contractor picked for the revamp, said, as quoted by Dnevnik daily on June 19.

CEH was contracted by executive agency Social Activities with the Defence Ministry after winning a public bid to this effect. The ministry owns the land on which the Cherveno Zname complex is located.

By 2010, the complex will be modernised and apart from hosting big international sports events it would also allow sports amateurs and professionals to train.

The new complex will retain its retro façade from the 1970s but will now have a modern and functional internal design, hence the changes will only affect the internal functions of the complex. The project to repair the indoor swimming pools in the complex is worth 8.32 million leva.

Among the facilities in the complex will be an Olympic-size swimming pool, a swimming pool with a 10m tower, a children’s swimming pool, a fitness centre and dressing rooms, gymnastics, relax and massage halls, as well as a lobby bar.
